contentment

On a blisteringly cold November day i was chatting with a colleague... again and again the discussion was treading the path of 'hapiness'.... its amazing how many people are looking for this one thing in life day-in day-out!

I cant express how i feel about this strange notion of happiness... its not something you can contain, hold-on-to or predict the occurrence of... you can plan everything expecting a happy ending and it might not happen that way. Similarly it's those unexpected moments that really bring you so much joy and happiness... things you never really planned for....

The key to happiness is to be content... Ask yourself the question, are you really content with your life? are you content with what you have done today? did you value the day, do the best you can today?? don't go in and out of life like a zombie... working for something you wanna achieve tomorrow, studying for something you wanna achieve tomorrow, living today for a better day tomorrow... really there is no worse thing in life than to live for a tomorrow...cause tomorrow you will be living for the day following... its a endless cycle and i see so many people just zombied in this race...

If you really want to be happy, try starting with being content with what you have today... if your studying now in search of job... then don't do it because you must get the job.. then you will see only the pains of learning (like the exams, the assignments..etc) and be burdened with the pressure of getting through... study with a passion to learn, with a passion to think differently and open your mind... you will love the experience and soon you will realise that the results come automatically.... if you live for the day, making the most of each day that comes to you... before long you will be doing things which make you content, leave you happy.

..and even when things don't go the way you want them to.. nothing will leave you miserable... cause you know you did the best you can and it will leave you content, clear and just focused on what can be done... not what has happened already...

Instinct

I have been thinking lately that technology is making us dafter by the day... Smart phones tosmart softaware...  We learn to juggle so many gadgets during our lifetime and think we achieve quite a lot by doing so too.... But have you thought about the real tools that are instilled in us when we are born.. lets take 'Instinct' for example....

Amazing how that works! its like a super smart software... When we meet someone for the first time or when we come across a situation, within a few seconds we use this skill  called 'Instinct' to analyse past data patterns, market information, verbal/auditory/kinestatic data received, empirical evidence stored in the mind...and so many millions of ways to arrive at some conclusion in our mind about the person/situation at hand.... it happens by processing so much info, yet it happens instantaneously and effortlessly.. and most of the time you  realise your Instincts are right too... WOW what a smart tool!

You may think, wait! its not always accurate - well now come to think of it, maybe its not correct at times cause we haven't mastered how to use this tool!

You have the power

Have you ever been in that situation where your not entirely sure why some people make it a point to bring information and comments that create doubt in your mind.... its strange to know that sometimes we are not even aware of an issue...or we are not even remotely affected by an issue until 'someone' -  under the 'pretense' of being 'a really nice person' shares some 'innocent' information with you!!

and then the seeds of doubt they planted start to grow.. making u think differently, making u judge situations... making you act like a detective analysing information...u go nuts... until you confirm if what they said holds any truth or not!! been there, done that!!!

now its time to move on... this morning someone told me a few 'innocent' remarks about a matter so close to my heart, you know what i did - acted 100% oblivious to it :) worked like a charm - it always makes the 'innocent' storyteller suffer in frustration of not getting their plot right!!

'dead' seeds don't grow, so that's the end of that!! phew!

One step ahead

So i have been thinking, its easy to just say i am looking for 'happiness' in life... but have you really thought about what happiness really is... there are the obvious things that come to mind... its intangible , an emotion you cant quantify or take hold of (probably we can just express it or just feel it)... its personal, it differs based on the person & personality (what makes me happy might not necessarily work for you)... it makes me think of Maslow and his hierarchy of needs...your needs kind of determine what makes you happy... you can control it, it comes n it goes when it does... hmmm...

The odd thing with this is that its not consistent!! you can enjoy something so much, that it makes you happy, but maybe enjoying it again wont give you the same satisfaction... then you look for something else that makes you happy... you come to the place of enjoyment, again you keep moving on... its a strange thing... so hard to put a finger on cause it keeps changing everyday...for me, sometimes it just changes based on my mood... if i am in a energetic mood i enjoy going to the gym. there is a sense of worthiness when you come out, knowing you did something good.. it really put my spirits right up making me happy... but then some days i am in such a low when i just think of the gym...

so its continuously changing, going in cycles and never a consistent thing... just something you can experience... but strangely its the one thing that everyone in the planet is trying to get hold of... something we cant hold on to nor control!

Whar are you looking for in life

Try asking people what they are looking for in life... usually they start with the tangibility's... 'Im actually interested in starting my own business....well i really want to change careers and make a move into consulting.... i don't know i think i would like to retire when i am 35 and live in the Caribbean..." a few circles down the line... and not before long usually... you come to that place where you are pleased with your definition of what your looking for...

Most often its 'I want to be Happy'.... hmmmm... happiness!! it really makes me wonder why we are looking for it with a passion... each n every single person is looking for happiness... its the one commonality, across regions, countries, religions, cultures.... across all borders... all humanbeings are looking for HAPPINESS!
